On Cardzilla, your profile includes two important country-fields that help manage how
and where you send and receive postcards:
Home Country and Sending Country.
Here’s a clear explanation of what they are, and why you might want to set them.
What are “Home Country” and “Sending Country”?
Home Country
This is the country where you permanently reside, your main base.
By setting this, you tell Cardzilla where your postal address is located.
Once Home Country is defined, you can also enter your full mailing address in that country.
This lets other users send you postcards there, and lets you send postcards to users who are okay receiving mail from your country.
Sending Country
This is an optional field you use when you’re traveling.
If you plan to send postcards from another country during your trip,
you can temporarily set this field to your travel destination.
This tells Cardzilla that postcards you request addresses for will be sent from this sending country,
while your Home Country remains where you normally receive mail.
Why These Fields Are Useful
Standard Use (Most Users)
You fill in Home Country, set your mailing address, and you're ready to receive postcards.
Other users will see your address based on this Home Country when they want to send you something.
When you choose to send a postcard, Cardzilla will show you only users who agree to receive postcards from your Home Country.
This is enough for most users who do not plan to travel.
When You Travel
Suppose you're traveling: you change your Sending Country to where you currently are.
After changing it, you ask Cardzilla for a list of potential recipients who are okay receiving postcards sent from that country.
You pick one, get their address, sign a postcard and send it.
Then, if you move to another country on your trip, you update the Sending Country again, request new recipients, and continue.
This allows you to send postcards that really reflect your travel location, while preserving your Home Country for where you receive mail.
After Your Trip
Once your trip is over, you can reset the Sending Country to match your Home Country or leave it blank. Both options are treated the same by the system.
That means you're back to your “normal” setup, receiving postcards at your permanent address.
Important Rules & Safeguards
Preventing Abuse: If you change your Home Country or Sending Country and then request possible recipients,
but you don’t choose anyone, Cardzilla will temporarily block further changes.
This prevents users from abusing the system to collect too many addresses.
Travel Sequence: The recommended sequence when sending on the go is:
Set your Sending Country to the place you’re in.
Request potential recipients for a postcard from that country
Choose a recipient, sign a postcard
When moving to a new country, repeat previous steps.
When done traveling, reset your Sending Country to your Home Country (or leave it blank).
Why This Design
User Control: It gives you full control over where your postcards come from and where they go.
Realism & Authenticity: If you send from where you travel, your postcards feel more personal and meaningful.
Privacy & Security:
By requiring you to pick a recipient before allowing country changes,
Cardzilla protects users’ addresses from being harvested.
Flexibility: Whether you live in one place permanently or move around, the system adapts to both scenarios.
Respect:
It is important to honor the preferences of other users and mail postcards only from your declared sending country.
Your recipient may be collecting cards from a specific location and may not welcome cards sent from a different one.
